Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
2013 was another amazing year in the vineyard with and early bud break (April 21) and good early heat followed by a long growing season. The grapes for this single vineyard Cabernet Franc were grown on our estate vineyard, River Rock Vineyards, which surrounds our winery in Oliver BC. The vines were in their 11th leaf when the fruit was harvested. Vineyard are all on south facing slopes where soils are composed of rock, sand, and gravel laid down during the last glacial recession
Production Notes
The Cabernet Franc was hand picked on October 21st, and destemmed. Approximately 80% of the fruit was left whole, uncrushed. The grapes were cold soaked between 3-5 days and then fermented in a 2850 litre stainless steel tank. The cap was plunged 2-3 time/day maximize skin to juice contact. Following fermentation the wine was pressed and transfered to another tank to settle then to barrels where malolactic fermentation was completed. Wine was aged in French oak barrels for approximately14 months (33% new). Following aging, final filtering, and bottling were completed.
Winemaker Notes
The 2013 Cabernet Franc has a medium body, ripe varietal fruit, balanced acidity, moderate, mature tannins creating a rich, lasting mouthfeel. This wine is presently showing ripe varietal fruit character including blueberries, black currants, black cherries, and a nice hint of French oak. This wine will easily age well 7-10 years+.
Other Notes
Tasting Notes: Shows depth on the nose with blackberry, wild flower'n'herbs, plum, soft spices, boysenberry and light cedar aromas. The dry, well-structured palate expresses similar flavours with added coffee grind and earthy notes and fine, ripe tannins. The finish is long and balanced with lingering wild berry notes. Consistently one of the best Cabernet Francs in the Okanagan Valley every year, the 2013 is showing signs of vineyard maturity and potential for further development in the bottle. Would benefit from another 6 months in bottle. Drink late-2014-2018. - Liam Carrier ©copyright 2015 IconWines.ca
