Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This wine is presently showing flavours reminiscent of blackberry, cherry, raspberry and pomegranate with hints of the spices cinnamon, cloves, tobacco and nuances of French oak.
Vineyard Notes
The 2014 vintage was another spectacular year in the vineyard. Bud break occurred on April 26th and harvest started October 19th. The grapes for this wine were sourced from our own estate vineyard and one other neighbouring vineyard. The majority of the wines were in their 13th leaf when the fruit was harvested. the vineyards are all on south facing slopes where soils are composed of rock, sand and gravel laid down during the last glacial recession.
Production Notes
All grapes were hand picked and de-stemmed. Approximately 80% of the fruit was left whole, uncrushed. The grapes were cold soaked between 3 - 5 days and then fermented in both stainless steel tanks (2200 and 2850 litres) and small fermentation totes to maximize skin to juice contact. The wine was transferred, following pressing, to tanks to settle then transferred to barrels where malolactic fermentation was completed. Wine was aged in French oak barrels (33% new) for approximately 14 months. Following aging, blending trials were done, final filtering, and bottling resulting in the 2014 Malbec.
Winemaker Notes
This medium bodied red wine is a beautiful inky dark violet colour and has bold ripe fruit flavors and concentrated textures from mature tannins representative of the great growing season of 2014. This wine is presently showing flavours reminiscent of blackberry, cherry, raspberry and pomegranate with hints of the spices cinnamon, cloves, tobacco and nuances of French oak. This wine has a medium acidity that is balanced and mouthwatering creating a freshness on the pallet. Tannins are moderate and will soften with time. This wine will age nicely for 7 - 10 years.

First time with their 100% Malbec. Very fresh, not your typical big, jammy, hot new world Malbec which is interesting. Lots of dark fruits, blackberry, medium acidity, medium finish, smooth tannins, not the most complex but nontheless its a good wine on the fruit side ready to drink now. 88 pts
