Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Off dry in style with floral and tropical aromas and flavors of melon, pear, and peach. This wine is balanced in acidity with a hint of minerality and a nice long finish. Serve slightly chilled.
Reviews and Ratings Deborah Podurgiel rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Love the mouth feel on this fragrant single-estate 2018 River Stone Estate Winery Pinot Gris with fresh, ripe peach and Canary melon aromas. Off-dry (8.0 g/l residual sugar), fresh on the palate with medium-plus weight, ripe and lush peach, pear and melon flavours rich and generous on the palate. Good acidity for food. Pair with roast chicken, cold turkey sandwiches or chill and enjoy on its own. The Pinot Gris grapes for this vintage were sourced from River Rock Estate Vineyards, The vineyard is south-facing ang grapes were harvested when the vines were in their 15th leaf (balanced pruning to photosynthetic capability of leaves) from this South Okanagan vineyard with rocky sand, and gravelly soils from the last glacial recession. A short period of contact with the skins gives this pretty PG and old-pink-gold hue. Fermentation was in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tank, as well as spending several months on fine lees prior to filtering and bottling giving the finished wine a fine elegance, structure and luxurious mouth feel.
Vineyard Notes
The growing season was very similar to 2017 with bud break on April 25th. The grapes for this single vineyard Pinot Gris were grown on our estate vineyard, River Rock Vineyards, planted in a location that allows the vine to thrive and mature fruit of a consistent quality and character. The vines were in their 15th leaf when the fruit was harvested. All of our vineyards are on south facing slopes where soils are composed of rock, sand, and gravel laid down during the last glacial recession.

Winemaker Notes
The Pinot Gris was hand-picked September 19th, at peak ripeness, and destemmed and pressed after a short period of skin contact time. The juice is then allowed to settle and racked to another stainless steel tank where it is inoculated with yeast starting the temperature controlled fermentation. A single commercial yeast strain was chosen for flavor and mouthfeel characteristics. Following fermentation, the wine spent several months on the finer lees before finning, blending, filtering and bottling
Food Pairing Notes
This Pinot Gris pairs well with oysters on the half shell, prawns or scallops but because of its texture and mouth feel will hold up to grilled chicken or pork tenderloin.

First taste of of fresh green apples followed by warmth. Dry yet still fruit forward.

A beautiful Pinot Gris. The best that the Okanagan has to offer. Light, crisp, and fruit forward with strong elements of stone fruit. But still nicely dry on the finish.

I'm not an expert taster, but I liked this Pinot Gris a lot.
