Gold Medal Winner, All Canadian Wine Championships 2024

Off dry in style with tropical aromas and flavours of passion fruit, grapefruit and melon and a hint of spice. The wine is nicely balanced with a small amount of residual sugar giving a soft supple mouth feel. Serve slightly chilled.

Wine Critic Reviews

Shelley Boettcher, Wine Writer:

As for this Viognier-Pinot Gris-Gewurztraminer blend, it’s a summery, refreshing fruit-forward crowd-pleaser that goes well with food but can also be enjoyed by itself, no noshing necessary. Serve chilled. Pair with: Charcuterie and soft cheeses, grilled salmon, sushi and sashimi, Thai green curry. Music pairing: Under the Boardwalk by the Drifters

Tony Aspler, Wine Writer:

A blend of Pinot Gris, Viognier, Gewurztraminer. White gold in colour; aromatic, floral, peachy nose with a thread of minerality; medium-bodied, just off-dry with a peach and lychee flavour. A little Gewurz goes a long way! Well-balanced and easy drinking. (90)

John Schreiner, Wine Writer:

This white wine is a blend of 37% Pinot Gris, 37% Gewürztraminer and 37% Viognier. It has aromas of citrus and pears. On the palate, there are flavours of peach, pear and pineapple. The finish is refreshing. 90.

Vineyard Notes
The winter of 2022-23 saw several cold events where temperatures dipped below critical bud health values. Bud break started as usual on April 28th but was uneven with many primary and secondary buds, as predicted, dead. Spring was cool but by late April the weather was warming up. May was nice and warm as was the remainder of the summer. The volume of fruit was down significantly in our vineyards which resulted in a slightly early harvest date. The Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer and Viognier were all picked by the 12th of September. Our predicted tonnage was about half of normal, but we were able to purchase both Pinot Gris and some aromatic Gewurztraminer from OPG Vineyard in Kaleden. The Viognier for this blend came from our Boulder City Vineyard. The vines were grown on sandy loam soils and farmed sustainably with particular care and attention to canopy and water management. Harvest decisions were based on winemaker’s personal preference with particular attention to sugar/acid balance and flavour.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes were hand-picked, at peak ripeness, then destemmed and pressed after a short period of skin contact time. The juice from each varietal was then allowed to settle before transferring to another stainless steel tank where it is inoculated with yeast starting the temperature controlled fermentation. Each wine was fermented individually. Following fermentation, the wines were racked off the lees several times over the next few months before blending, finning, filtering and bottling.
