2016 Cabernet Franc
WINNER - Gold Medal - 2018 National Wine Awards of Canada
March 13, 2018
2016 was another amazing year in the vineyard with our earliest bud break (April 27) and harvest ever (Sept. 21) Good early heat in May followed by a beautiful summer and fall growing season. The grapes for this single vineyard Cabernet Franc were grown on our estate vineyard, River Rock Vineyards, which surrounds our winery in Oliver BC. The vines were in their 13th leaf when the fruit was harvested. Vineyard are all on south facing slopes where soils are composed of rock, sand, and gravel laid down during the last glacial recession
Gold - All Canadian Wine Competition ACWC - July 2018
The Cabernet Franc was hand picked on October 1st, and de-stemmed. Approximately 80% of the fruit was left whole, uncrushed. The grapes were cold soaked between 3-5 days and then fermented in a 2850 litre stainless steel tank. The cap was plunged 2-3 time/day maximize skin to juice contact. Following fermentation the wine was pressed and transfered to another tank to settle then to barrels where malolactic fermentation was completed. Wine was aged in French oak barrels for approximately 14 months (33% new). Following aging, final filtering, and bottling were completed.
The 2016 Cabernet Franc has a medium body, ripe varietal fruit, balanced acidity, moderate, mature tannins creating a rich, lasting mouthfeel. This wine is presently showing ripe varietal fruit character including blueberries, black currants, black cherries, and a nice hint of French oak. This wine will easily age well 7-10 years+.
A Cabernet Franc with crisp, clean fruit, with a good degree of freshness, and notes of fresh herbs and dust that add complexity. Nice length in the mouth and good finish. ~ Rémy Charest Wine Align July 2018

River Stone consistently makes the best Cab Franc in the valley. Delicious, beautiful nose, delicate structure and long finish make this wine my go to wine for dinner with friends.
