This wine is presently showing flavours reminiscent of blackberry, cherry, raspberry, with hints of spices, cloves, tobacco, coffee, and nuances of French oak. The wine has a medium acidity that is balanced and mouthwatering creating freshness on the pallet. Tannins are moderate and will soften with time.
The 2016 vintage was another good year in the vineyard. Bud break was April 29th and harvest dates were mid-October. The grapes for this wine were sourced from our own estate vineyard only. The vines were in their 14th leaf and the canopy and water were carefully managed allowing the fruit to fully ripen before harvest. The vines are grown on south facing slopes where soils are composed of rock, sand and gravel laid down during the last glacial recession.
All grapes were hand picked and de-stemmed. Approximately 80% of the fruit was left whole, uncrushed. The grapes were cold soaked between 3-5 days and then fermented in both stainless steel tanks (2200 and 2850 litres) and small fermentation totes to maximize skin to juice contact. The wine was transferred, following pressing, to tanks to settle then transferred to barrels where malolactic fermentation was completed. Wine was aged in French oak barrels (33% new) for approximately 14 months. Following aging, final filtering, and bottling, resulted in the 2016 Malbec.
This medium bodied red wine is a beautiful inky dark violet colour and has bold ripe fruit flavours and concentrated textures from mature tannins representative of the great growing season.

I love hearty reds, especially with steak this one ticks all the boxes!

One of the best Malbec's we've enjoyed, bold full bodied wine that was exceptionally smooth and jammy. One of my favorites to date!
