Splash - Pinot Gris, Viognier, Gewurtztraminer
March 13, 2020
Off dry in style with tropical aromas and flavors of passion fruit, guava, grapefruit and melon and a hint of spice. The wine is nicely balanced with a small amount of residual sugar giving a soft supple mouth feel. Serve slightly chilled.
Most of the grapes for this blend were grown on our estate vineyard. The Viognier came from a neighbouring vineyard. The vines were in their 17th leaf when the fruit was harvested. All of our vineyards are on south facing slopes where soils are composed of rock, sand, and gravel laid down during the last glacial recession.
The grapes were hand-picked, at peak ripeness, then de-stemmed and pressed after a short period of skin contact time. The juice was then allowed to settle before transferring to another stainless steel tank where it is inoculated with yeast starting the temperature controlled fermentation. Each wine is fermented individually with select yeast strains. Following fermentation the wines were racked off the lees several times over the next few months before blending, fining, filtering and bottling.

Just shared a chilled 2018 Splash with my wife on the patio on a +22C Alberta afternoon. Both of us really enjoyed it. Always appreciate this wine, but a warm spring/summer day seems to enhance the experience. Got a case of 2019 ordered to share with friends/family. Keep up the good work!

We have visited River Stone a few times and always enjoy some SPLASH on the patio there. We order at least twice a year online because we enjoy the wine so much. Hope to come back in the summer for a visit!!

From the first time we stepped through Riverstone doors over 6 years ago & left with a case, Ted just keeps on getting better with age, just like his wines! The biggest challenge is deciding on what wines to get (they’re all excellent) & not blow the budget, which can’t be done.(just ordered our 4th case this year?!) Keep it up Ted! (& the rest of their awesome staff)
