Wine Profile
Vineyard Notes
The 2022 season started with bud break on April 27th. The weather was cool in May and through June with flowering 2 weeks later than usual. August also had cooler than normal nights. Early September was wetter and cooler than normal but was followed by a return to seasonal norms up to the end of October. The vines were farmed sustainably with particular care and attention to canopy and water management. Harvest decisions were based on winemaker’s personal preference with particular attention to sugar/acid balance and flavor. The Viognier came from our Boulder City Vineyard. The vines were in their 19th leaf at harvest. Soils are well draining mixture of boulders, large rock, gravel and sand. The Viognier was harvested on two separate dates. October 6th and 14th.
Winemaker Notes
The grapes were hand-picked, at peak ripeness, then destemmed and pressed after a short period of skin contact time. The juice was then allowed to settle before transferring to another stainless steel tank where the juice is inoculated with a select strain of yeast starting the temperature controlled fermentation. Following fermentation, the wine was racked off the lees several times over the next few months before finning, filtering and bottling.

We were excited to try Riverstone’s new varietal Viognier. It’s one of our favourites from Australia so we were glad to see we would have a wine from a local winery to enjoy. We taste tested it next to the aussie and it was different but very good. We felt it tasted ‘fresh’ which is a good thing. There were citrus overtones so it tasted ‘brighter’ than the one from Oz. We fell it will be another great wine to enjoy on a hot summer day.

Very happy that the makers of my favourite Savignon Blanc have also now made my favourit Viognier! Crisp and fresh with just enough fruit with a smooth mouth feel. :-) Will be getting more (if there is any left?)
