The grapes for this single vineyard Bordeaux style blend were grown on our estate vineyard, River Rock Vineyards, which surrounds our winery in Oliver BC. The vines were in their 9th leaf when the fruit was harvested. The vineyards are all on south facing slopes where soils are composed of rock, sand, and gravel laid down during the last glacial recession.
Each varietal contained in the blend was hand picked, and destemmed. Approximately 80% of the fruit was left whole, uncrushed. The grapes were cold soaked between 3-5 days and then fermented in both stainless steel tanks (2200 and 2850 litre) and small fermentation totes to maximize skin to juice contact. The wine was transferred, following pressing, to tanks to settle then transferred to barrels where malolactic fermentation was completed. Wine was aged in French oak barrels (33% new) for approximately14 months. Following aging, blending trials were done, final filtering, and bottling resulting in the 2011 Corner Stone Blend.
This bold Bordeaux style blend is presently showing ripe varietal fruit character with hints of blueberry, blackberry, cherry, sage and wild thyme. Loads of berry flavors, coffee and chocolate, supported by French oak. It has balanced acidity and moderate tannins that will soften in time..
This wine will age nicely 5-7 years
WineDiva's Review ~ Daenna Van Mulligan
Generous, cassis, smooth.
River Stone's vineyard in the South Okanagan was planted with this wine in mind. It's a blend of estate Merlot (59%), Cabernet Sauvignon (23%) and Cabernet Franc (18%).
Aromas of cassis and black cherry with some purple fruit notes layered with vanilla, sarsaparilla, grilled red bell peppers and wild sage. The palate is brimming with ripe fruit and sweet spices - the tannins are smooth the finish juicy. Not a full-bodied red or laden with over-the-top oak - it has a softer approach.
River Stone suggests you can cellar this wine for 5-7 years.
